.h1 GENERAL INFORMATION
.h2 Standard Screen Information
Once you begin to use YOUR VERY OWN ^040,
you will quickly learn that certain information always
appears in the same place on screens. For example,
line 23 is always the line where your input is entered.
Line 2 is the Title Line. Line 22 is where any errors
will be shown, etc.
.sp
In addition, the left side of the screen shows what
choices you have available, while the right side of
the screen shows choices which you have already made.
.sp
Following is a diagram which more clearly shows you
where to look for things on the screen.

.h2 Your Responses
Whether you are deciding what to do, entering data, or
making inquiries, you respond to instructions and to
questions in the same ways.
.h3 Making a Choice
Making a choice is a matter of deciding which number on
the left-half of the screen is the one which corresponds
with what you want. You then type the number, and press
the 'enter' key.
.h3 Bypassing an Item
Sometimes you will want to just skip over some item, and
leave it unchanged. To do this, all you have to do is to
press the 'enter' key, and that item remains the same.
.h3 Selecting ^064
Sometimes you will want to select everything in some
group or category. You do this in the same way that you
bypassed a single item. You press the 'enter' key, and
^064 is chosen.
.h3 Entering Other Information
Sometimes you will be asked to enter some information,
such as an amount or a remark. In these cases, you type
your information, and then press the 'enter' key.
.h3 Correcting Your Typing Errors
Sometimes you will make a mistake while you are typing.
You may use the 'backspace' key to back up, erasing the
errors, and then you can type the correct information.
.h3 Abbreviations
Sometimes you will be asked to type just a single letter,
which is the abbreviation of a word, such as s (for save),
f (for forget), or m (for more), or t (for today). When
you do this, you type the letter, and press the 'enter'
key.
.pa
.h3 Replacing with Blanks
Occasionally, you might want to change something from its
present value to blanks. Since the 'enter' key has other
meanings, it will be necessary for you to type a blank
which has quotes around it. This is done by typing a
quote, then a space, then another quote, and finally by
pressing the 'enter' key.
.h2 Start-up Screens
The following pages show you what you will see on the
screens when you do a start-up of the ~YOUR VERY OWN
^040~ program.
.pa
.h3 The Title Screen
During start-up, the first screen that you will see is the
Title Screen, which identifies the program, its relationship
to other programs, and its copyright.
